LeSean McCoy breaks ground on Harrisburg affordable housing complex

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy returned to his hometown of Harrisburg on Friday to break ground on a new affordable housing complex.

JMB Gardens, named after McCoy’s grandparents, is a new complex located near 6th and Emerald Streets.

The complex will offer housing options targeting those with incomes at 23, 30, 50, and 60% of the AMI for the Harrisburg area.

There are 14 one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units, and 11 three-bedroom units. Six units are designed for ADA accessibility and one unit is for those with hearing and/or vision impairments.

“I was thinking when I was a kid walking these streets, it wasn’t always safe some hours of the day,” said McCoyn. “Now, can I change that? Yes, where we make the environment safe and go to school and be happy right?”

JMG Gardens should open in about one year.

McCoy played six seasons for the Eagles becoming their all-time rushing yards leader with 6,792. He’s also ranked ninth in franchise history in total touchdowns with 54.

Philadelphia traded McCoy to the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2015 season. He finished his career with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he won Super Bowls with both franchises.

A six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, McCoy ranks 22nd all-time in career rushing yards with 11,102. McCoy will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame starting in 2026.
